FONTANA DAM
Among the most beautiful dams in the world, Fontana Dam is surrounded by the Great smoky Mountains National Park and the Nantahala National Forest. Fontana Lake, a reservoir created by Fontana Dam, has 238 miles of shoreline and 10,230 acres of water surface and is a popular site for many kinds of outdoor recreation. Equipment rentals are available at the marinas.

TAIL OF THE DRAGON
Sports car and motorcycle enthusiasts come from all over the world to drive this 11-mile stretch of roadway known as The Dragon or The Tail Of The Dragon for its 318 tight, frequent curves.

CHEROHALA SKYWAY
A designated National Scenic Byway, the Cherohala Skyway is a paved, two-lane road with 15 scenic overlooks, picnic sites and trailheads along the way. The Cherohala Skyway boasts long, sweeping curves and breathtaking views as the elevation ranges from 900 to over 5,400 feet above sea level along this 43-mile drive. Named for the two national forests the skyway runs through, “Chero” for the Cherokee National Forest and “hala” for the Nantahala National Forest, the Cherohala Skyway connects Robbinsville, NC to Tellico Plains, TN with a Visitor Center and not-for-profit gift shop in Tellico Plains.
